on-board RAID controller?
I'm building a server for a client that is going to be used with some surveillance/security software, recording a series of wireless cameras. The server has 3 500GB hard drives, which will be used in a RAID 5 configuration. and 2 150GB standard IDE boot drives. It has an ASUS P53 premium motherboard with onboard RAID SATA controller, but I also have a PCI-E RAID controller. Would it be more reliable to use the onboard to hand both the RAID and IDE drives? or should I have the PCI express card handle the RAID, and just use the onboard for the boot drives?
the controller card by far.
onboard is generaly promise raid with is cheap and not very good at all.
user your card. and if you can get one for a video I would go with a adaptec set up.
